Last week we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming a group from Beyond Blindness to Pearson’s Farm & Animal Rescue. From the moment they arrived, the farm was filled with laughter, curiosity, and plenty of gentle animal cuddles.
Our team created a warm, inclusive, and tactile experience that allowed everyone to get up close with the animals and feel part of the farm family. It was so rewarding to watch the joy that came from meeting our animals face-to-face – from patting the soft fleece of our lamb Shirley, meeting Bessie the calf, and holding our kangaroo joeys with their velvety fur.
There was also lots of interest in our reptiles – feeling the rough texture of a bearded dragon compared to the smoothness of a blue tongue lizard. And of course, nothing was more popular than cuddling the little chicks, rabbits, and guinea pigs. With touch being so important, it was wonderful to see how these animals created such memorable moments for our visitors.
An Experience for Everyone
This visit was a wonderful reminder of the power of connection between people and animals. Our staff particularly loved supporting the group, and it was motivating for us to adapt how we normally run tours to make sure everything centred around touch and sensory experiences. It was a joy to see how meaningful this approach was for our visitors.
Why It Matters
At Pearson’s Farm, we believe the farm should be a place where everyone feels welcome and included. Visits like this remind us that accessibility isn’t just about opening gates – it’s about creating experiences where every person can truly engage and connect. Animals have a unique way of breaking down barriers, and it was beautiful to see how they reached out to our visitors in their own gentle ways.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We’d like to extend a big thank you to Beyond Blindness for visiting us. Your time here was as special for us as it was for you, and we hope the memories of the farm stay with you for a long time to come. We’re already looking forward to welcoming you back again.
